At Happy Mindz Day Nursery and Preschool, we believe that every child deserves the very best start in life. From the moment children join us, our aim is to nurture their curiosity, confidence and love of learning, creating strong foundations that will support them through their educational journey. A particularly important part of this foundation is READING.
We strongly believe that reading should begin from birth. Books are not simply a tool for learning to read; they open up a world of imagination, language, discovery and connection. Sharing a story helps develop vocabulary, listening skills and understanding of the world, whilst also creating precious moments of bonding between children and the adults who care for them.
Our passion for early reading is deeply personal. It was cemented through the experience of our daughter, Emma who at two days old became the first child in the UK to benefit from Dolly Parton's "Imagination Library"- even meeting the superstar at two days old when she came to launch Imagination Library in the UK. Seeing first hand the impact that receiving her book monthly could have on a young child reinforced our belief that access to books and the joy of reading should start as early as possible,
That belief continues o influence everything we do at Happy Mindz.
We want children to grow up seeing books as something exciting, comforting and magical. We want them to develop a love of stories long before they are expected to read independently, and to understand that books can take them anywhere- introducing them to new ideas, different cultures, wonderful characters and endless possibilities.
Our approach is much more than preparing children for school. Its about giving them the best possible foundations for life. Through stories, conversations, songs, rhymes and shared reading experiences, we encourage them to develop communication, language and literacy skills they need to flourish. Most importantly, we want every child to leave Happy Mindz with a genuine love of books and reading. All the books received through the Imagination Library are available and readily shared in setting.
A Curriculum of Wonder...
Every child’s early years are the beginning of a very special story.
Our curriculum is the magical thread that weaves through each child’s day — inviting them to wonder, explore, imagine, discover, and grow. It is thoughtfully shaped around what we want children to learn, experience, and become as they take their first steps into the wider world.
Rooted in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), our curriculum comes alive through the things children love most: play, stories, friendships, adventures, questions, and moments of discovery.
We believe every child arrives with their own little spark of curiosity — a fascination with dinosaurs, a love of stories, a fascination with puddles, a tower they desperately want to build, or a question that simply cannot wait until tomorrow.
Our practitioners are there to notice those sparks.
We watch. We listen. We wonder alongside the children.
Then, gently and thoughtfully, we fan those tiny flames of curiosity into opportunities for learning. A fascination with a snail might lead to discovering the natural world. Building a den might become a lesson in teamwork, problem-solving, and perseverance. A shared story might open the door to new words, imagination, confidence, and a lifelong love of books.
Our environments are carefully prepared to feel like open-ended invitations to adventure — places where children can follow their interests, make discoveries, take safe risks, test their ideas, and create their own stories.
And sometimes, the most wonderful learning happens in the moments we almost overlook.
A conversation at snack time.
A comforting hug between friends.
A question asked on the way to the garden.
A child proudly fastening their own coat.
A tower that tumbles — and is built again.
These are the little moments that become big steps in growing up.
Here, learning is not simply something that happens at a particular time or in a particular place.
It is woven into the very fabric of childhood.
Every question is a doorway.
Every discovery is an adventure.
Every child has a story worth telling.
